The Heritage Country Market: a Sunday craft market at The Heritage in Hillcrest

Enjoy a day out at the Heritage Country Market, a craft market hosted by the Heritage in Hillcrest on the last Sunday of the month. This Sunday market offers a lovely morning of browsing for anyone from the solo shopper to the extended family.

The Heritage in Hillcrest

The Heritage in Hillcrest (also known as the Heritage Market) is an unusual outdoor shopping venue with a unique appeal. Although it’s easy to find in central Hillcrest, it has a wonderful “campus” type environment with shops housed in a collection of Victorian-style buildings set in grassy green gardens filled with fragrant roses. The Heritage has long been a favourite with locals and visitors alike.

The Heritage is the perfect place for a craft market. It’s right on the 1000 Hills Tourist Route and visiting the Country Market offers the opportunity of attending the market as well as shopping, wining and dining at the Heritage itself.

Conveniences and Facilities

The Heritage in Hillcrest is a great place to visit because of its facilities. You can expect the following conveniences:

  • Clean toilets
  • Baby changing areas
  • Over 700 parking bays
  • Tourist information
  • 24 hour security
  • Car guards

The Heritage Country Market

The Heritage Country Market is determined to bring the country atmosphere back to Hillcrest. On the last weekend of every month from 9am to 1pm the Heritage hosts this popular Sunday market. You’ll find yummy things to stock up your larder, a variety of art and crafts and an assortment of other treasures. Feel free to shop and indulge at the Heritage shops as well-they stay open until 3pm. The parking lot near the Keg is a good place to leave your car for easy access to and from the festivities.

A stroll along the walkway near the restaurant strip is a feast for the senses on Country Market day. Live music welcomes visitors and the cobbled street is adorned with tables, each one laden with irresistible goodies.

Food

Foodies will linger over the lovely breads, savoury tarts and farm-made pies. Fruit and veg shopping is a breeze at the fresh produce table with its variety of healthy, delicious offerings. Other tasty titbits include goats milk cheeses, olives, sundried tomatoes, homemade boerewors and venison. There are also sweet treats for the “sweet-toothed”-don’t miss the decadent cupcakes and scrumptious biscuits, rusks and confectionery.

Creative arts and crafts

The Country Market is a craft market too, showcasing the talents of a number of craftspeople. An exploration of the various crafts turns up a collection of things from stylish baskets to remarkable rugs manufactured from shirt off-cuts, to wonderful paintings and restored furniture.

Further inspection reveals a range of fascinating stalls selling books, trendy gumboots, wooden wine racks and a host of other delightful treasures.

Entertainment for kids

This Sunday market has plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained. There’s painting and crafts for little artists and face painting for budding drama queens (and kings)! There are also pony rides and the captivating Menagerie Animal Farmyard where young nature lovers can touch the animals and learn more about them.

Refreshment

All that browsing among the stalls is likely to cause some shopping fatigue. A bottle of lemon cordial or some juicy strawberries with ice cream go a long way to rejuvenating tired feet! For those who are really tuckered out there’s a selection of cafés and restaurants in the “shopping centre” for drinks, meals and a moment to rest.

The Heritage Country Market is a great place to be on the last Sunday of the month. Try this local craft market for a fun and memorable morning out!
